How to setup Netgear Wi-Fi router?


  • Connect the modem to the WAN port of the Netgear router using an Ethernet cable. The WAN port is located at the back of the router.
  • Connect the desktop computer to any of the four internet ports using another Ethernet cable which are also located at the back of the Netgear router.
  • Power cycle all the three devices one time. Wait for the devices to turn on before proceeding.
  • Once the devices are finished rebooting, open an internet browser.
  • Type www.routerlogin.net in the address bar to access the admin login page.

    For most of the Netgear routers, the admin username is “admin” and the admin password is “password”. The default credentials are case sensitive.
    Once successfully enter the username and password, the Setup Wizard will appear. Click OK to continue.
  • The Setup Wizard will try to detect the internet connection type for the user’s network.
  • For all the wired connections, the Setup Wizard will detect as Dynamic IP.
    Click Finish to complete the setup.

  • Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router.
    Now, connect another Ethernet cable from the device to the internet port of the Netgear router.
  • A wired connection is preferred because it prevents the connection from dropping between the setup. This ensures there are no issues while initially setting up and logging in to the router.
  • Reboot the modem, the router and the device being used to setup and login to the router.
  • Open any web browser and type www.routerlogin.net in the address bar. The admin login window will appear asking the user to enter the default information within the respective fields.

  • Once the user has successfully logged in to the router, the Setup Wizard will appear.
  • The Setup Wizard tries to detect the type of internet connection the user possesses.

How to reset Netgear Wi-Fi router?


  • The reset button is located at the back of the router within a very small hole to prevent accidental reset.
  • Using a small pin or an opened paper clip, press and hold the reset button for about ten seconds.
  • Release the reset button. The power light becomes green/white and stable. Then, the router will be restored back to its factory settings.
  • Once the router has been successfully restored to its factory default settings, all the personalized settings of the user will get reset too. This process cannot be reversed once the router has been reset.

How to change the username and password for Netgear Wi-Fi router?


  • Using a desktop computer or laptop, open any internet browser and type www.routerlogin.net in the address bar.
    The admin login page will appear. The user will see two fields with the username and password as the title. Enter the default username and password.
  • One the user has entered the web based interface after successfully logging in to the router, click the ADVANCED option.
    Now, click the Administration tab. The user will see the Network Name (SSID) and the Network Key (passphrase) option with respective fields.
  • Enter the new desired information within the respective fields and make sure to save the changes made.
  • The username and password for the Netgear router will have been changed. The user can reconnect any of their devices using the new admin username and admin password.
